Nosy Lava (Long Island) is the most northern island of the Mitsio Archipelago in Madagascar. The island is 3,5 kilomtres long, 1,5 kilometres wide and covered by vegetation. The highest summit is 160 metres. At low tide a beach stretches along the northern part of the island.
In the past the island was used as a prison island housing some of the most nasty criminals of Madagascar. Although the prison is closed by now, some of the former inmates are still living there.
