A maritime harbour serves domestic and International shipping lanes routes and a ship yard constructing and repairing wooden boats dhows by traditional methods can be found along the shoreat south end of the town. The town Antalaha is a popular destination among explorers of visitors to the East coast with a its long beautiful beach making up part of the scenery. Antalaha and the region is regularly affected by cyclones, which has in previous every few years years wiped out much of the vanilla seasonal crops affecting world vanilla prices.

Antalaha can be reached by road, sea or by air. An airport about ten kilometres south of the town is served only by [[Private Charter Flights|private air charters]]. A road in good condition connects Antalaha with [[Sambava]] where a domestic airport offers daily flights from the Capital and other major cities.

An The 80 kilometres drive by [[taxi-brousse]] takes about two hours from Sambava. Other more adventurous routes are a 3-5 day hike across the [[Masoala|Masoala peninsula]] starting from [[Maroantsetra]] or via [[Cap Est]]. It's sometimes possible to catch a cargo boat from [[Maroantsetra]], [[Sainte Marie]] or [[Toamasina]].

The easiest way to get around the town of Antalaha is by foot, tuk-tuk or [[pousse-pousse]]. The central marketplace of Tanambao is well worth a visit, especially on Thursday mornings.
