Madagascar is the world's 4th largest island of the world with a total size of 587,041 km². Bad road conditions, large mountain chains and seasonal weather changes with extremely extreme high demperaturestemperatures, heavy rains or rain fall and cyclons can make travelling by car through Madagascar not only a complicated and time consuming but also unpleasant trip.
The country is dotted with many airports, some of them are private and not more than a grass strip, some of them are paved and open for regular flight services. The local airline [[Air Madagascar]] operates 28 domestic airports covering the most of the country.
