Voay is the Malagasy word for crocodile. Voay is of Indonesian origin. Malagasy people of Bantu origin might say mamba to a crocodile.

Many lakes with crocodiles are considered sacred throughout Madagascar. The crocodiles are believed to be humans which out of wrong behaviour turned into crocodiles. Such a sacred lake is Lac Ravelobe located in the Ankarafantsika National Park.
