Established in the 1937, the Berenty Lodge is the oldest and most famous private wildlife reserve in Madagascar. The lodge is located in the spiny desert within the 250 hectares Berenty Reserve, 86km (two hours drive) west of Fort Dauphin.
The accommodation is simple and unpretentious and unsuitable for anyone searching for 5-star luxury. People come to Berenty for its excellent lemur watching and beautiful nature, not for the accommodation or hotel facilities.
There is also a museum with local crafts and a history of the region.
