Turning left onto a secondary road north of Sambava, this route runs along hilltops with great panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes until reaching the villages of Antisraka and Ambohimitsinjo.
The road and sometimes trail thereafter continues at lower altitudes through various plantations until the Maheva river, through the villages of Ambodimanga, Masovariaka until Farahalana, where the RN5a turns north back to Sambava.
During times of much rain, the road along the river between Ambodimanga and Farahalana gets very muddy and more or less unbikeable in places.
