KOSAMA, short for Kooperative Sambirano Manongalaza, is a cooperative of cacao farmers since 2022. Its members represent about 100 independent smallholder farmers with planting areas of altogether about 100 hectares in the region around Sambirano in northeast Madagascar.
Alphonse, the President of the cooperative, manages a 4ha cacao planting area around KOSAMA's processing facility close to the village of Ambohimena between Ambanja and Ankify.
KOSAMA's biologically certified planting areas, processing and drying facility supply cacao beans to artisanal chocolatiers such as Éka Chocolate among other premium bean-to-bar chocolate producers..
The cooperative welcomes visitors who would like to visit a cacao plantation and learn about cacao production.
