Berenty is the oldest and most famous private wildlife reserve in Madagascar, established in the 1937. The lodge is located in the spiny desert of the 250 hectares Berenty Reserve, 86km and two hours drive west of Fort Dauphin.
The accomodation is simple and unpretentious and not suitable for those expecting 5-star luxury. People come to Berenty for its excellent lemur watching and beautiful nature, not for the accommodation or its hotel facilities.
There is also a museum with local crafts and a history of the region.
