Ihosy is a small town, 15 kilometres north of the Tulear/Fort Dauphin junction. The town, which is the capital of the Bara people, is a popular stop-over for travellers along the RN7 between Antananarivo and Tulear.
In the town centre there are several hotels, restaurants, a post office, hospital and bank.
