Shortly after leaving Sambava direction north along RN5a, turning left onto a secondary road, the route runs up and down and along hills with great panoramic views until the villages of Antisraka and Ambohimitsinjo. Thereafter the road and sometimes trail continues at lower altitudes through various plantations until the Maheva river, passing through the villages of Ambodimanga, Masovariaka until reaching Farahalana along RN5a, which runs north back to Sambava.
During the rainy season, the road along the river until Farahalana is very muddy and more or less bikeable in places.
