Due to the bad poor road conditionconditions, the village is best reached by boat from Tulear, which can take usually takes about 1-2 hoursone hour. During low tide, the transfer begins with a short oxcard oxcart ride onto the seabead shallow water seabed to reach the a pirogue or motorboat. The various Various hotels in Anakao provide a transfer which transfers that can be booked in Tulear harbour directly from where the boat leavesboats depart. A There are a few basic hotels are strewn over along the coastline of Anakao and past both ends of the village. These are mostly typically simple beach huts, providing a life on the beach experiencefor visiting tourists. Behind Some very large and ancient tombs can be found behind the village and depending on the profession of the buried they are some tombs, usually decorated with either oars/rudders or zebu horns in memory of the dead. South of the village fragments of eggshells of from the world's largest bird, the now extinct [[Aepyornismaximus]] or elephant bird, can be found (it scattered along the beach. It is illegal to take them bring these shell fragments out of the country).

The Two small uninhabited nature protected islands of , [[Nosy Ve]] and [[Nosy Satrana]] , are located just outside close to the coast of Anakao which . Both islands are popular destinations for uninhabited and offer no accommodation and can only be visited by day visitors. Both islands Boat trips can reached be arranged usually by a short fisherman pirogue ride leaving from the mainlandvillage or via one of the hotels.
