Ikaloy is one of the twelve sacred hills of the ancient Merina Kingdom. The village of Ikaloy is located along the Andranobe river in the north-west of Antananarivo.

Set high up at 1,600m above sea level, it was the birthplace of King Andrianampoinimerina. The system of weights and measures of this village were adopted by this king for all his kingdom. (Text by Isabelle Ratsira)
