The Mikea people live in the dry forests and arid steppes northeast of [[Toilara]] (Tulear) in the region of the [[Ihotry]] lake in the southwest of Madagascar. They are a small nomadic population, who feeds mainly on roots ([[babou]]). Until today, the Mikea people have preserved their own lifestyle without any constraints.
Théo Rakotovao is a well known Malagasy singer who named his group [http://www.mikeamada.com MIKEA] after the people he sings about. In his songs he tells stories of his childhood and the life of the Mikea people.
