Madagascar is the 4th largest island of the world with a total size of 587,041 km². Bad road conditions, large mountain chains and seasonal weather changes with extremely high demperatures, heavy rains or cyclons can make travelling through Madagascar not only a time consuming but also unpleasant trip.
The country is dotted with many airports, some of them are private and not more than a grass strip, some of them are paved and open for regular flight services. The local airline [[Air Madagascar]] operates 28 domestic airports spread all over covering the most of the country.
