Tourists usually come here shopping for handicrafts and visit the French colonial Benedictine monastery where the resident nuns make cheese. Various excursions to nearby [[Betsileo]] villages can also be arranged from town by guides and tour services. Apart from woodcrafts, the Ambositra area is largely dependent on rice farming and fruit crops.
