[[File:Ambilobe 001.jpg|600px]] Compared to the smaller towns and villages in the remote surrounding, Ambilobe might make an uncharming impression when first arriving. That is mainly due to the large traffic, as Ambilobe is a junction town for transport between places such as [[Vohemar]] (Iharana) and [[Sambava]] on the east coast, [[Diego Suarez]] in the north and [[Ambanja]] direction southsouthwest.
Ambilobe is the closest town to [[Ankarana National Park]].
The population in 2001 was approximately 56,000. Its main agriculture includes sugarcane, rice and tomato, while cotton is also grown and fishing employs about 10 percent of the population. Ambilobe is an area of cashew agriculture.
[[Albert Zafy]], the president of Madagascar between 1993 until 1996, was born in Ambilobe.
