Antalaha The town and the region are regularly affected by heavy cyclones, which have wiped out countless vanilla plantations every few years, affecting the world's supply and prices price of natural vanilla.

Antalaha can be reached by road, sea, or by air. An airport about ten kilometres south of the town is served by [[Private Charter Flights|private air charters]]. A road in good condition connects Antalaha with [[Sambava]] where a domestic airport operates scheduled daily flights from the Capital and other cities around the country.

The 80-kilometre drive from Sambava by [[taxi-brousse]] takes about twohours. More adventurous routes are a 3-5 day hike across the [[Masoala|Masoala peninsula]] starting from [[Maroantsetra]] or around the peninsula via [[Cap Est]]. It's also possible to catch a cargo boat from [[Maroantsetra]], [[Sainte Marie]] or [[Toamasina]].

A visit to the botanical park of [[Macolline Park|Macolline]] including a short canoe from behind the park on the Ankavia River to a traditional brick-making facility is highly also recommended.
