Antalaha and the region are regularly affected by heavy cyclones, which have wiped out precious vanilla crops every few years, affecting the world's supply and price for natural vanilla.

Antalaha can be reached by road, sea, or by air. An airport about ten kilometres south of the town is served by [[Private Charter Flights|private air charters]]. A road in good condition connects Antalaha with [[Sambava]] where a domestic airport operates daily flights from the Capital and other cities around the country.
