The small village Tanambao is located on the Masoala peninsula, northeast of Madagascar. The village lies on the old "smugglers trail", connecting Maroantsetra with Antalaha, and can be only reached by foot.

From Mahalevona to Tanambao it is a 60-minute hike. Coming from Fizono it takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes to reach Tanambao.
